Precision Crafted: Geometric Cut Gemstones

Precision Crafted: Geometric Cut Gemstones

The Rise of Geometric Cut Gemstones: Where Art Meets Precision

In the ever-evolving world of fine jewelry, a bold new trend is capturing the attention of collectors and creatives alike: Geometric Cut Gemstones. These striking, nontraditional cuts are not only a visual departure from classic shapes—they represent a deeper fusion of artistry, ethics, and advanced gemological technique.

At Young In The Mountains, we celebrate this intersection of form and meaning. Our commitment to sustainable sourcing and experimental design has placed us at the forefront of this modern gemstone movement.

From Tradition to Transformation

For centuries, gem cutters adhered to a small set of symmetrical shapes—round brilliant, oval, emerald, and princess cuts—designed to maximize brilliance and mass appeal. These styles remain staples for good reason: they balance light performance and durability exceptionally well.

But today’s collectors are looking for more than sparkle. They want pieces that reflect their personal stories, values, and style. That’s where geometric cuts—such as hexagons, kites, lozenges, and free-form silhouettes—are changing the landscape. These contemporary forms move beyond optimization into pure expression.

Powered by Precision: A New Era in Gem Cutting

Modern lapidary work has evolved dramatically. Thanks to high-precision faceting machines, cutters can now achieve intricate, angular shapes that would have been impossible—or prohibitively risky—with older methods.

At the same time, there’s a resurgence in appreciation for the art of hand-faceting, where each facet is placed by eye, offering nuance and imperfection that’s deeply human. At Young In The Mountains, we work closely with both precision cutters and independent lapidaries, ensuring that every stone tells a story of mastery and intention.

Why Geometric Gemstones Matter

What sets Young In The Mountains apart is our holistic approach. Each gemstone is not only carefully cut and ethically sourced, but also integrated into a design that elevates its natural beauty and aligns with your values.

This isn’t fast fashion—it’s heirloom-worthy jewelry created with meaning.

Whether you're drawn to the bold architecture of a hexagon or the asymmetry of a custom-cut freeform, geometric center stones are a powerful celebration of individuality. And when paired with our signature recycled gold bands, responsibly sourced Montana sapphires, or hand-inlaid stones like variscite and turquoise, the result is unmistakably one-of-a-kind.

Celebrate with color. Celebrate with intention. Celebrate the geometry of you.

    Cleaning Your YITM Jewelry

    Gold, Diamonds & Sapphires
These materials are the most durable and easiest to clean. Use warm water, a small amount of mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush to gently remove buildup. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, and abrasive materials. Jewelry with exclusively gold and diamonds or sapphires can go in ultrasonic cleaners. The gold parts of the jewelry can be shined with the polishing cloth included in all YITM orders.

    Inlay Jewelry
Inlay pieces require special care. Do not soak or submerge in water. Do not put in an ultrasonic machine. Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth only. Moisture and chemicals can occasionally change the color composition of soft turquoise and variscite stones. Remove when applying lotion, oil, cleaning or swimming. The gold parts of the jewelry can be cleaned with the polishing cloth included in all YITM orders.

Sunstones, Tourmaline, Topaz, Garnet, Amethyst or Peridot
These stones are more delicate. We do not use them in rings for this reason. If these stones are in your other YITM styles, do not use ultrasonic cleaners, steam, or harsh cleaners. Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth if needed, then dry immediately. The gold parts of the jewelry can be cleaned with the polishing cloth included in all YITM orders.

    Storage & Long-Term Care

Store each piece separately to prevent scratching, ideally in a soft pouch or lined jewelry box. Keep jewelry away from humidity, extreme temperatures, and direct sunlight. Periodic professional inspections are recommended for rings worn regularly.

For everyday, forever wear, we recommend a simple pure gold band. Our inlay and accent jewelry is best worn as the occasion permits. Please visit our FAQ page for more detailed care guidance.
