Why Fine Jewelry is a Smart Investment: The Benefits of Adding Sparkle to Your Portfolio

The most fun asset to own!

Why Fine Jewelry is a Smart Investment: The Benefits of Adding Sparkle to Your Portfolio

Are you looking to add some sparkle to your investment portfolio?

Look no further than the world of fine jewelry.

While stocks and real estate may be top-of-mind when investing, owning luxury pieces can boost your bottom line. Adding jewelry as an investment can provide financial returns and personal satisfaction.

So why not invest in something beautiful that will continue to shine for years?

In this post, we'll explore how adding luxury pieces can elevate your investment strategy and help you diversify your assets with style.

Jewelry As An Investment: Diversifying Your Portfolio

Regarding investing, many options exist. Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, real estate... the list goes on. But one investment that you may not have considered is fine jewelry.

Sure, you might not think of diamonds and pearls as something that can help you reach your financial goals. But if you look closer, you'll see that jewelry can be a great addition to your portfolio.

Here are a few reasons why it's a great idea to consider jewelry as an investment:

Jewelry is a tangible asset.

Unlike stocks or mutual funds, you can physically hold onto your jewelry investments. This can be helpful if you want a "hands-on" approach to their finances. And if the market ever takes a turn for the worse, at least you'll still have your jewels!

Jewelry can appreciate over time.

If you buy quality pieces from reputable brands, your jewelry will likely increase in value as time goes on. This makes it a great long-term investment option.

Jewelry can be used as collateral for loans.

If you ever need to borrow money, using your jewelry as collateral can get you a lower interest rate than other assets (like stocks or bonds).

While investing in jewelry can be an alluring prospect, it's important to remember the downsides.

Risks of Investing in Fine Jewelry

For starters, it's no small feat! It usually requires a hefty amount of capital.

  • You'll need to do your homework to ensure you invest in the right pieces to give you the best returns.
  • Precious jewels can be surprisingly easy to lose. Even the most organized can be guilty of misplacing our treasures.
  • And while the portability of jewelry is undoubtedly a plus, the reality is that it can also make them more vulnerable to theft or loss.

Before diving headfirst into investing in jewelry, consider the pros and cons and have a solid plan.

How to Start Investing in Jewelry

Here are a few things to remember if you're interested in investing in jewelry:

Know Your Goals

What are you looking to get out of your investment?

Are you hoping to make a quick profit, or are you looking to hold onto the piece for longer?

Knowing your goals will help you narrow down the type of jewelry you should invest in.

Consider the Four Cs

The "Four Cs" of diamonds (cut, color, clarity, and carat weight) can also be applied to other gemstones. Consider these factors when choosing a piece of jewelry to invest in.

Research the Market

It's essential to know what pieces are currently in demand and their going rate. Doing your research beforehand will help you avoid overpaying for an item.

Buy from a Reputable Source

When investing in jewelry, buying from a reputable source is important. This will ensure that you're getting a quality piece worth what you're paying for.

With careful selection and research, having jewelry as an investment can significantly add luxury, diversity, and value to your portfolio.

Ethical and Sustainable Investment in Jewelry

Whether you're a fan of timeless diamond earrings or modern statement necklaces, there's something for everyone.

But why settle for any brand when you can support one that's truly making a difference?

At Young in the Mountains, they believe that the intricacies and handmade details in their jewelry make each piece truly unique and worthy of representing your love and accomplishments.

Each piece reflects your individuality and values, with handmade details that make them unique.

And the best part?

You can feel good knowing that the materials are ethically sourced and eco-friendly.

    Cleaning Your YITM Jewelry

    Gold, Diamonds & Sapphires
These materials are the most durable and easiest to clean. Use warm water, a small amount of mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush to gently remove buildup. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, and abrasive materials. Jewelry with exclusively gold and diamonds or sapphires can go in ultrasonic cleaners. The gold parts of the jewelry can be shined with the polishing cloth included in all YITM orders.

    Inlay Jewelry
Inlay pieces require special care. Do not soak or submerge in water. Do not put in an ultrasonic machine. Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth only. Moisture and chemicals can occasionally change the color composition of soft turquoise and variscite stones. Remove when applying lotion, oil, cleaning or swimming. The gold parts of the jewelry can be cleaned with the polishing cloth included in all YITM orders.

Sunstones, Tourmaline, Topaz, Garnet, Amethyst or Peridot
These stones are more delicate. We do not use them in rings for this reason. If these stones are in your other YITM styles, do not use ultrasonic cleaners, steam, or harsh cleaners. Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth if needed, then dry immediately. The gold parts of the jewelry can be cleaned with the polishing cloth included in all YITM orders.

    Storage & Long-Term Care

Store each piece separately to prevent scratching, ideally in a soft pouch or lined jewelry box. Keep jewelry away from humidity, extreme temperatures, and direct sunlight. Periodic professional inspections are recommended for rings worn regularly.

For everyday, forever wear, we recommend a simple pure gold band. Our inlay and accent jewelry is best worn as the occasion permits. Please visit our FAQ page for more detailed care guidance.
